Mosaic Formation

A non-profit looking to expand access to spiritual formation care, Mosaic Formation is a dedicated group of people who are driven to provide for and help others in marginalized and underserved communities. They came to Bluberry Creative looking to give their logo a fresh look so that they could also look to the future with a new and brighter perspective.

Finding the Right Seed

As a person of faith myself, I knew immediately that I wanted a symbol of growth to represent what they stood for, and of course it needed to reference Mosaic’s namesake as well. While it was my creative director who helped spark what would eventually be the rough format for the end design, I was the one brought the idea of the dogwood flower to the table.

It is said that the planks of wood that were used in Christ’s crucifixion were from a dogwood tree, and I wondered if the flowers of the dogwood tree might be useful as a symbol. As luck would have it, dogwood tree flowers have great symmetry, and it immediately became the basis for all designs going forward.

Pruning the Plant Growth

The initial client presentation went well and the dogwood concept was received with a great deal of positivity and encouragement, but the logo and wordmarks still had a long way to go.

Colors in Full Bloom

After the client settled on a wordmark, I eventually narrowed down the logomarks to three options. When the Mosaic team chose the second option of the three, I began to search for a color palette to match. They liked the deep rich green the most; so the other four colors needed to compliment it while also staying true to the mosaic motifs I had worked into the wordmark.
In spite of the rigorous testing, I had some difficulty finding something I felt was good enough to present to our client, but after discussing the project over with my creative director, we dropped the blue parts of the palette entirely and came up with something new that would come to be part of the final product.

Final Logo Suite

The Mosaic team was very happy with the final product we presented, and is one of the projects to date that I am the most proud of.
