Bluberry Creative

A company that plays together, stays together. When I first interviewed with Bluberry Creative, it was apparent to me from the start that I was with like-minded people. Laura Dodds and Christian Madison wanted nothing more than to make people happy doing what they were best at, and so did I. They gave me a safe place to grow and cultivate new skills, and no matter who made up the company at any given time, we would all be connected by our shared membership in the Blu Crü.

The Blu Dude

January 21st, 2021 was when our Blu Dude first appeared in Bluberry Creative’s socials. At first they were just random people with a photo of a blueberry for a head, but when Bluberry made a leap to a new website sometime in the early fall of 2021, Christian asked me to make some illustrations of them to transform the Blu Dude from a handful of stitched together stock photos into a character that belonged to and embodied the spirit of Bluberry Creative.

Holiday Illustrations

Some of the Blu Dude illustrations I created for Bluberry Creative were for specific holidays. This was a limited run series of illustrations that ran from December of 2021 until early 2022, including major holidays like Christmas and New Years, but also International Women’s Day and Tolkien Reading Day. Finally, as 2022 had been the Year of the Tiger and Christian our creative director was Filipino, I created those illustrations for the 2022 Lunar New Year.

Unused Illustrations

Some illustrations I made for Bluberry Creative were side projects meant to become assets for the company website in the future, however, client projects always took first priority. Even though some of them ultimately never made it onto the website, I was still proud of the work and wanted to show them off to show my skills as an illustrator.
Pictured here are some vector illustrations of blueberry foods, and a character concept sketch of our creative director, Christian.

Website Illustrations

These illustrations were created specifically for the Bluberry Creative website to give it personality and charm. The subjects of the illustrations are based on icons from Canva, but when we decided to use icons as a base for our website imagery, we also wanted to give those boring lines and shapes some personality fit for a marketing company.

Initially the illustration style I was going for had a rougher, sketchy feeling; something that screamed artsy and cute. However, as Bluberry Creative evolved during my time working with the company, so did our branding. Eventually I came to revisit most of the services icons and gave them a more polished vector appearance.
